Located just outside of Taneytown, Maryland, Foggy Bottom Farm is known for their champion Hereford genetics. Home to the Denver Stock Show Grand Champion Polled Hereford Bull, Foggy Bottom Farm is owned by Ray and Cyndy Howes. The family began raising Hereford cattle on Foggy Bottom Farm in 1983 and today the herd of 30 momma cows produce offspring that perform at the highest levels in the show ring.
Managing Partner Bill Widerman is the mastermind behind the diet for the show string at Foggy Bottom Farm. A ShowBloom user for more than 25 years, Widerman shared with us why ShowBloom is a key ingredient in Foggy Bottom Farm’s recipe for show ring success.
“My criteria for a feed supplement is results,” he said. “I can see a difference in the overall ‘bloom’ of the cattle when we use ShowBloom. They eat better and their hair is healthier.”
Exhibiting livestock is one of the many ways Foggy Bottom Farms markets their cattle so having them ready for the show ring is crucial. Widerman says a feed supplement is important to any competitive show animal’s diet and attributes ShowBloom with helping accomplish many show ring wins.
“I have fed 4 or 5 National Champion Angus Females with ShowBloom, the bull we won Denver with this year, and several Junior National Champions,” reflected Widerman.
What has kept him a loyal ShowBloom user for so many years? The fact that it has helped his cattle perform.
“We try not do to do anything that isn’t proven,” said Widerman. “Whether it’s genetics or feed supplements, if it doesn’t work, we don’t use it.”
While the Foggy Bottom Farm team is thankful for all the great show ring success, they all say that the best part of showing cattle isn’t winning banners, but the friends they get to meet while doing it.
Thank you to Bill and the team at Foggy Bottom Farm for being such loyal customers and sharing their story of success! Are you a ShowBloom user? Tell us why in the comments!
